Photos of 1970's - Richard Bollwerk
I was in Guard Company after returning from Vietnam in May of 1970, and marched in the 70, 71, and part of 72 parade season. I have some photos and some historical items that might be of interest. This is a photo taken in April of 1972, when I received a Meritorious Mast. This is my platoon (2nd, I think) on photo day in 1971. Major Coolican was Company Commander, and Capt. Munson was platoon commander. A cover of the Parade program from 1971. A copy of the Parade program from 1971. I scanned the inside with the list of parade staff. For some reason that I don't recall, I got to travel with the Silent Drill Team to Ft. Henry in Canada in 1971. I think I may have had to fill in for someone, not sure, but I am in the photos taken during the afternoon practice session. The platoon commander that year was Captain Peter Pace (later General Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff). He can be seen in the first photo. I'm in the 1st squad, front row, on the left. This photo is the presentation of two Marine swords, one enlisted, one officer, to the Ft. Henry unit. The above two photos are of Sgt. John Marley doing the inspections during the evening performance. 196th USMC Ball 1971 and Sunset Parade on 12 May 1972 Silent Drill Team on photo day in May of 1970 Parade deck on photo day 1970.
