My platoon leader was Lt. David Lefevre. He was a short-timer and was well liked by the men. He was dating LBJ's daughter Lynda Bird Johnson. She would come to the barracks in her red Corvette(along with the Secret Service following of course). On January 20th, 1965, LBJ's Inauguration, 8th&I marched past the White House. We were given orders "eyes left". The band played the Marine Corps Hymn, at which time both the President and David Lefevre stood up and shook hands. Lefevre then waved to us. The Chicago Tribune on November 11th, 1965, published an article about Lynda Bird Johnson attending the University of Texas. At the University her dating was limited. The article stated her favorites, tho far away, are David Lefevre and Brent Eastman. Lefevre, a former Marine lieutenant and White House aid, is with a a New York brokerage firm. He dated Lynda in Washington and they write occasionally.
