THE CREATION OF COMPANIES A & B

On 17 March 1978, as part of a reorganization at the Marine Barracks, 8th & I Streets,
Washington, DC, and in accordance with CMC letter MPC-53-bpm 5320, the Ceremonial
Guard Company was redesignated Company A and the Marine Corps Institute Company was
redesignated Company B. Refer to page 8 of the Marine Barracks, 8th & I Command Chronology,
1 January 1978 - 30 June 1978.

Following the submission of his resignation on National TV the previous evening, this famous photo shows President Richard M. Richard Nixon leaving the White House the following morning (on August 9, 1974). Shown at the left of the doorway is Cpl Jake Fender and Cpl Kent Snyder is shown in the right foreground. Not shown are the other members of the detail, Sgt Terry Nummer (NCO in charge) and Cpl Grant, all of the 2nd Plt. CGC.

Construction work in progress on the new enlisted quarters during 1973.

After the new "BEQ" (Bachelor Enlisted Quarters) was constructed adjacent to the Barracks on the South side of Eye Street, S.E., the Ceremonial Company moved to the new building after it vacated Building #58 at the Naval Gun Factory. Building #58 had been its home since the winter of 1958-59 (the building was later to become the Marine Corps Museum).

Once the new BEQ was finished and occupied, an excellent brochure was published about it in 1975, which can be viewed by clicking here.

Here is a copy of a picture I have from my time at 8th & I. What is different about this picture is that it states
" To the Officers and Men of the Marine Barracks at 8th & Eye".

Here is a picture of the funeral of "Lt. General Chesty Puller." I am the Marine Sgt.on the right front on the left front is Sgt. Larry Sholdis. The other is a letter which I received from Mrs. Puller.
It has a small spot on the right top because I laminated the letter along with the envelope. What you see is the corner is part of the envelope
