Historical Events of the 2000's
The year 2005 provided a unique distinction for the Marine Corps, as well
as for 8th & I, when General Peter Pace assumed the position
of Chairman of our Nation's Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Pace first served
at the Barracks as a 1st Lt. in 1969, first as a ceremonial platoon leader, and
then as Company Commander of the Ceremonial Company. He returned to the
Barracks again in 1988 as a Lt. Col.

Marine Barracks, Washington, DC particpated in another milestone of Marine Corps
history when the Commandant presented the Medal of Honor flag
to 16 living Marine Medal of Honor winners and the families of 10 others who were
unable to attend the August 2, 2006 ceremony.
